WORKING AT ONE8

Our Work

At One8, you will work alongside a diverse team of dedicated individuals, among talented strategic thinkers and nonprofit professionals, each committed to meaningful social impact. These experienced professionals assess opportunities, take risks, innovate, implement, fail forward and succeed, always placing the change we seek at the center of decisions. We are humbled to work in partnership with outstanding social entrepreneurs’ intent on catalyzing impact at scale.

The world is in desperate need of talented leaders purposing all or a part of their careers to repairing the world. Succeeding professionally is more fulfilling when the work you do changes lives.

Our Culture

At One8, we value integrity, hard work, humbleness, the willingness to see possibility and the guts to tackle intractable problems. We believe our most creative, innovative, and effective work is born because of collaborative effort.

We work in teams and deeply value in-person team time which amplifies creative and strategic thinking and makes work fun. We have a shared commitment to diversity, learning, curiosity, continual improvement and investing the time to develop skills and potential. We also value work flexibility and are committed to the health and wellbeing of all our staff members and their families. Our teams work together at our offices located in Boston’s Back Bay Tuesdays – Thursdays with a remote option for work on Mondays and Fridays.

We all appreciate our team celebrations, games and happy hours that allow time to relax and enjoy one another outside the confines of meetings. Come join us!

Our Name

The mission of the One8 Foundation is to affect meaningful and lasting social change in a few critical issue areas. We are focused on outcomes for those we serve, not on us as funders. To that end, the foundation’s name reflects the foundation’s intent.

One8 signifies the number eighteen, or chai, which includes two letters of the Hebrew alphabet. Chet, the 8th letter in the Hebrew alphabet, signifies “life” and yud, the tenth and smallest letter in the alphabet, signifies humility. Together, the word Chai conveys the holiness of life and the primary tenant of Judaism that all lives are sacred, with every human being created in the image of God, each life is of infinite value, symbolizing the whole of humanity.

As donors and as a foundation, the principles of our charitable giving have been informed by Maimonides Eight Levels of Charitable Giving. Although all charity is a blessing, the three purest forms of giving guide our foundation’s work. Maimonides teaches that the most virtuous gift helps those in need support themselves to become self-sufficient while preserving their dignity. The second and third most valued ways to give are to do so anonymously so the recipient does not know from whom he or she is receiving the benefit, thereby creating a relationship of equals between the giver and the recipient. Over the years, we have aspired to attain these lofty principles and remain committed to these guiding beliefs.

We are blessed to work with committed and talented nonprofit partners and our foundation staff who are the reasons positive change is possible.

Our Benefits

In addition to receiving a competitive compensation and benefits package, each staff member receives our commitment to their growth and professional development.  Examples of learning opportunities include graduate school courses, attending conferences, professional coaching and regular and thoughtful performance reviews designed to help foster each team member’s professional potential.

One8 Foundation is an equal opportunity employer and proudly values diversity.
