Welcome and thank you for your interest in the One8 Learn & Earn (L&E) Grant. The grant was created by the One8 Foundation in partnership with the Office of Career Integrated Learning (OCIL) at MCC. Funding is provided by the One8 Foundation and departments will receive support throughout the grant process from OCIL. This application is intended to provide an avenue for your department to:

  • Share the department’s vision and commitment to a L&E model
  • Demonstrate the strength of implementation conditions and potential for growth (e.g., available jobs, student and employer demand, program strength, faculty support, etc.)

Application Instructions

  1. Attend an upcoming info session to learn more about the grant opportunity.
  2. Reach out to Winny Oyamo, Senior Director of Career-Integrated Learning (oyamow@middlesex.mass.edu), to discuss your application.
  3. Complete one application per department, submitted by the department chair.
  4. Submit the application online by January 20, 2023

November 7, 2022: Grant Application Opens

November 16 & 17, 2022: Info Sessions

November 2022 – January 2023: 1-on-1 Meeting(s) with OCIL (required)

First meeting should occur no later than December 16

November 2022 – January 2023: Develop Application with OCIL

January 20, 2023: Grant Applications Due

January 23 – February 3, 2023: Application Review and Follow-up Interviews (if needed)

February 13, 2023: Grant Award Notification

Spring 2023: Launch Planning

Fall 2023: Student Recruitment

December 2023 – January 2024: Launch Preparation (Spring 2024 Semester Launch)


High-Level Expectations for the Grant

ü Department chair participates as primary grant contact

ü Department's dean signs off on plan and application

ü Coordination with OCIL to develop grant application (including 1-on-1 planning meetings)
ü Commitment to planning during Spring and Fall 2023 (including a faculty retreat)
ü Commitment to launch program in Spring 2024 (including a January faculty retreat)
ü A model that includes:

    • Average of 20-40 hours per week of work for participating students for at least 1 year, with the potential for participating students to be converted to full-time employees at the end of the year
    • Jobs with strong wages, benefits, and demonstrated upward mobility
    • Adjustment of course schedule and map to align to students’ work schedules (if needed)
    • The ability to start with ~15 participating students and grow to at least 45 students in 2-3 years
    • Defined and measurable outcomes
