Preach the Word – Preaching Workshop

Feb 27 2012 | Longview Heights Baptist Church | Olive Branch, MS

“Preaching the Word is the primary task of the Church, the primary task of the leaders of the Church, the people who are set in this position of authority; and we must not allow anything to deflect us from this, however good the cause, however great the need”

- D. Martyn Lloyd-Jones

“Sermons should have real teaching in them, and their doctrine should be solid, substantial, and abundant. We do not enter the pulpit to talk for talk’s sake; we have instructions to convey important to the last degree, and we cannot afford to utter pretty nothings. Our range of subjects is all but boundless, and we cannot, therefore, be excused if our discourses are threadbare and devoid of substance. If we speak as ambassadors for God, we need never complain of want of matter, for our message is full to overflowing. The entire gospel must be presented from the pulpit; the whole faith once delivered to the saints must be proclaimed by us. The truth as it is in Jesus must be instructively declared, so that the people may not merely hear, but know, the joyful sound. We serve not at the altar of the ‘unknown God’, but we speak to the worshippers of him of whom it is written, ‘they that know thy name will put their trust in thee’”
-C.H. Spurgeon

“I cannot overemphasize the importance of preaching…there is no substitute for preaching the Word of God.”
-Adrian Rogers

In an age when the role of preaching itself is under attack, it is as important as ever to recognize the necessity of Biblical exposition. The ONE8 Network will be hosting an all-day workshop on Monday, February 27th, as Dr. Russell Moore (Dean of the School of Theology, Southern Baptist Theological Seminary)  and Dr. Tony Merida (Associate Professor of Preaching, Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary) discuss how we can faithfully and effectively communicate the truths of Scripture. The ONE8 Preaching Workshop is for planters, pastors, staff members, seminary students, and young men called to ministry.
